lowell george wouldn't play day at the dog races

when i make cherry tomato pasta the old man makes faces

the same face i used to make at a plate of asparagus

we are all too old to be making such a fuss

except for lowell
who is in a hole
where we will all be some day
so send that plate my way
of whatever it is
and that liquid in that bottle
the one with the fizz
at the banquet of life
work day is over
forget the strife
lay in that bed of clover
on top of the green
looking up at the blue
what a scene
what a view
take it in with all your senses
and cross whatever fences
you put up in your own way
and don't ever say
you never heard or spent a
day at the dog races
break free of your own traces
before you're under the green side
where nobody wants to ride
