death stared me in the face
and he blinked
i lost the race
but i winked

and walked away
from the wreckage

but i learned my lesson
and backed off
the accelerator
and while you may scoff

at my seeming timidness
i know what i experienced

and while i sit here
watching butterflies
and billowy clouds 
in opalescent blue skies

death will be back again
and he remembers that wink
and he will say
did you think

you could get away?

and i will say
hello old friend
